Youth Support Agreement (YSSA)

In Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Youth Support Services provide a range of support for young people to help resolve many problems, which may include:

• problems with attendance or behaviour at school
• problems with drugs and alcohol
• difficulties finding work, training, or re-entering education having left school
• being at risk of getting involved in anti-social behaviour and/or crime
• going missing from home or school
• being homeless, or at risk of homelessness
• young carers
• teenage parents.

There is a legal requirement under the Education and Skills Act 2008 for schools to pass on information on request to the Youth Support Service for pupils at or approaching the age of 13.

The information which schools are required to provide consists of:

• the names and addresses of pupils and their parents (must be provided to the YSS)
• the date of birth of the pupil
• other information relevant to the provision of Youth Support Services

Parents – or pupils themselves if aged 16 or over – have the right to object to any information (over and above name, address and date of birth) being shared with the local authority or provider of Youth Support Services.
